Why Use Flowers on Mothers Day?

Carnations:
In 1908 Anna Marie Jarvis created the holiday as a “Sober day of Reflection”.  She sent 500 white carnations to her local church.  White Carnations symbolizes purity, faith, love, beauty and charity; all traits thought to represent the virtues of motherhood.

Always make sure you check the significance of Carnations before deciding what color to buy for your family and friends.  You do not want to send the wrong message.

Color and Meaning of Carnations:
  • ·       Light red symbolizes admiration
  • ·       Dark red symbolizes deep love and affection
  • ·       White symbolizes pure love and good luck
  • ·       Striped symbolizes regret
  • ·       Green symbolizes St. Patrick’s Day
  • ·       Yellow symbolizes disappointment
  • ·       Purple implies capriciousness
  • ·       Pink is the greatest significance of all; it is believed that they first appeared on earth from the Virgin Mary's tears shed over Jesus’ death – making them the symbol of a mother's undying love.

Orchids:
Orchids represent love, luxury and strength.  It symbolizes “many children” in the Chinese culture.

Pregnant Women in ancient Greece believed if the soon to be father would eat large, new orchid tuber, the baby would be a boy!  Wow…wonder if it worked..lol?

Lighter Red/Deeper Pink Roses:

This is for the traditional Mothers.  Remember the lighter shades of red and deep pink symbolizes gratitude and appreciation.  Yellow symbolizes a caring nature and white purity and brightness.

Day Lilies:

Day Lily is the Chinese symbol meaning “Motherhood”.  These are great if you would like a plant that can be planted outdoors and will bloom year after year beautifying your sanctuary.

When choosing flowers for your Mom, think of her personality and choose flowers that will reflect her personality.  Attach a little “just so you know” tag and write why you chose the flowers you are giving her.  This will mean more to her than you could imagine.

Our Mom’s give us our life and teach us to be loving and strong.  They help us to grow into who were are to be.  Their love is an unconditional love that will last until their last breath and maybe even beyond!  Wanting better for us as we grow in their safe havens…Mothers have an inexplainable love for their children!  She will never stop worrying about her children.  So...the next time you feel she is a bother, just remember she can't help but worry....you are still her baby and always will be!

Mother
No one can take away the love of a Mother
For it last even long after death
You never forget it-it's always there
The joy, peacefulness and tenderness
For not even a Mother looses that
She remembers her kids
The way they were
The way they are
For love is always unconditional
For both a Mother and Child
Nothing can tear that apart
It's a bond that last for all eternity
So, remember your mom, your kids
For memories last long after death
