Don't Let Mosquitoes Affect your Sanctuary

Don't Let Mosquitoes Affect Your Sanctuary

Its getting warmer. Soon these little blood suckers will be trying to crash your landscape. It's pretty easy to discourage them.

Not much is worse than enjoying a peaceful day and getting attacked by these little monsters. It is so hard to get grounded and enjoy some peace with the knowledge that soon you will be scratching all over. Mosquitoes carry diseases and parasites. I'm pretty sure that you have heard all of this before. You have probably experienced it for yourself. But, did you know that they affect your pets? Believe it or not, mosquitoes love dogs. Mosquitoes carry heart worms. This can be detrimental to your little furry loved one. So, lets see what you can do to make them go away.

Mosquitoes lay eggs in standing water. On a regular basis, you should walk your sanctuary. Look for any standing water. Look for water in flower pots, children's toys, and unused buckets.  Make sure that water features are aerating properly. Fill any puddles or areas that do not drain. A little prevention goes a long way. Mosquitoes won't stick around in an area that is not good for breeding.

Natural repellents are also a good idea. There are many recipes using essential oils. These oils include rose oil, citronella, lemon grass, cinnamon, catnip, and lavender. Experiment a bit to find what works for you. Also, you can buy  citronella plants. Set them up in decorative pots around your sanctuary.

Good luck! Remember that your landscape is your sanctuary. Design your landscape to bring you peace and help you stay grounded. Dream it.., build it. If I can help, let me know.
